Powers and Abilities

Active powers:

  • Temporal Manipulation - Mel was able to selectively alter the flow of time. Due to her unique power set, Mel was often referred to as a "time witch". Mel is temporarily cut off from this power due to being in "Witchness Protection" and in "What to Expect When You're Expecting the Apocalypse" Mel gains that power back when she freezes a demon in front of her.

    • Temporal Displacement: As a result of her powers expanding, Mel was able to accelerate the flow of time around an object to rapidly age it. With Jada's guidance, Mel used this ability on a Witch Hunter's ring, accelerating its age to disintegrating from decrepitude. She later did the same to the Escape Oil, accelerating the oil's mixture process so it would not have to sit for two weeks before it could be used. She also used the ability to speed up the blooming process of a plant that was an important ingredient of a potion used to cast the Akkadian Smokescreen.

    • Time Traveling: the power to move through time and space into the past or the future. The ability to time travel can also be accessed through spell casting. This power is also a branch of Temporal Manipulation.

  • Molecular Manipulation - In "The Rules of Engagement", Mel gained the power to manipulate matter on a molecular level after making contact with the black amber tree in the Command Center.

    • Molecular Acceleration: The ability to speed up the movement of molecules, causing them to become disordered and, in most cases, rapidly heat up. While practicing her new powers in Guess Who's Coming to SafeSpace Seattle, Mel discovered she could cause things to heat up, boiling water in under thirty seconds, and thawing out ice. In "Curse Words", Mel was able to cause a gun to heat up like a burner on a stove without discharging it. To stop Harry from killing her with a knife after he contracted a demonic illness in "Dance Like No One is Watching", Mel manipulated the knife's molecules to vibrate enough to knock it from Harry's hand. In "Sudden Death", Mel's control over her powers is shown when she uses them to heat up a door's hinge and cut through it. In “You Can't Touch This”, Mel can use her powers to heal a demon until it explodes.
    • Molecular Inhibition: The ability to completely stop the movement of molecules, causing them to lose their energy and solidify, resulting in ice. She unwittingly used it for the first time to freeze Parker in The Rules of Engagement. In "Guess Who's Coming to SafeSpace Seattle", after weeks of practice, Mel has been able to freeze and unfreeze water with complete ease. In "Dance Like No One is Watching", Mel later used the freezing aspect of her power to freeze one half of Maggie's baton, in conjunction with Macy using her pyrokinesis on the other half, to create an electrical current to restart Jordan's heart. In "Yew Do You", Mel later uses the freezing aspect of her power to solidify the Yew potion.

Former Powers:

  • Temporal Stasis: Mel's original active power is stopping the flow of time. According to Harry, this power is common among control freaks and reflects Mel's controlling nature. She mostly uses hand gestures to activate her power, but this is unnecessary.

  • Temporal Acceleration: As a result of her powers expanding, Mel was able to accelerate the flow of time around an object to rapidly age it. With Jada's guidance, Mel used this ability on a Witch Hunter's ring, accelerating its age to the point of it disintegrating from decrepitude. She later did the same to the Escape Oil, accelerating the oil's mixture process so it would not have to sit for two weeks before it could be used. She also used the ability to speed up the blooming process of a plant that was an important ingredient of a potion used to cast the Akkadian Smokescreen.

Passive Powers:

  • The Power of Three: The bond and connection between Mel and her sisters, who are the current generation of "the Charmed Ones", who are said to be the most powerful trio of witches. Mel and her sisters use their powers to protect innocent lives and vanquish demons, often invoking their joint "Power of Three" to defeat their enemies. Evidently, certain spells require the Power of Three and cannot be cast by even the most powerful witches, like Charity Callahan. In "Safe Space", since the Charmed Ones' individual powers were stripped when they went through the portal to the Command Center, the Power of Three became ineffective as well, until a chance encounter with a retired Elder helped the sisters realize they could take on and finally regain the Power of Three in "Third Time's the Charm". After the death of Macy who sacrificed herself to save the world from the threat of the Whispering Evil, the Vera sisters lost their connection to the Power of Three. However, the eldest Original Charmed One Ishta revealed that there was another Charmed One out there who could help them restore it. Six months after Macy's death, Kaela Danso arrived, and because of Macy's stem cells in her system, which turned her into a witch, joined Mel and Maggie and reconstituted the current incarnation of the Charmed Ones. When Inara drank from the Unity Bowl in the original timeline, Mel and her sisters lost access to the Power of Three, but over a year later, they reclaimed the Power of Three from her by drinking a pure Black Amber from the Black Amber Tree, which later resulted in Mel's death and the disbandment of their sisterhood. However, this timeline was erased by their past selves changing the present and saving the future.
    • Resistance: Presumably through the Power of Three, the Charmed Ones can resist the effects of having their memory erased to a certain extent, allowing the memories to slowly bleed back through.
  • Immunity: Being a witch, Mel is inherently immune to certain magical abilities (e.g. the sirens' songs and to pixie dust).
